For those who aren't familiar with the Fat Gecko from Delkin, these are portable camera mounts that have super strength suction cups that allow you to mount your point & shoot, DSLR or camcorder to windows, car hoods, helmets, or virtually any other surface that suction cups will mount too. Unlike the suction cup mounts of the past, these heavy duty mounts actually have large levers that press the air out from the suction cups to create a super strong vacuum hold. The other end features a pivoting head with 1/4-20 thread for connecting to your camera.
Delkin now has the Fat Gecko Mini (single suction cup), Fat Gecko (dual suction cup), Fat Gecko Bike Mount, and the Fat Gecko Gator Mount.
Delkin showed us their new products at their PMA booth this year, two of which won a coveted DIMA award. The Delkin Jellyfish is a waterproof pouch, flotation ball, and integrated can opener (yup, can opener) designed to attach to the growing number of waterproof cameras that are being purchased. What most consumers don't realize is that those waterproof cameras are NOT float proof and will sink, unless of course you attach the Delkin Jellyfish to it.
The other DIMA award winner is the new Fat Gecko Gator Mount which alow you to mount your camera or camcorder virtually anywhere. The third product in this video is the new Delkin line of COMBATflash memory - compactflash cards that are not only blazing fast but also designed to take abuse while continuing to work flawlessly. We talked to Nexto out at PMA to get the scoop on their new NVS2500, a very high-speed portable backup drive for event cinematographers and broadcasters. Their new NVS2500 is a high-end travel companion like no other. It has a basic LCD screen to actually preview footage, but the big news is that is supports ALL video standars including Sony SxS, Panasonic P2, XDCAM (XDCAM MPEG2 4:2:0), P2CAM (AVC-INTRA, DVCPRO HD, DVCPRO 50, DVCPRO, USB-OTG) and also features an internal free-fall sensor, and extremely fast backup. How fast? The NVS Pro can backup an SxS card at an average speed of 80 MB/s, that's 16GB in just 3.4 minutes. The ND2700 is a consumer priced version that does away with the Preview LCD and pro format support but also very fast transfer rates for typical consumer media (MS, SD, SDHC, CF, CFII, Microdrive, etc.). Click Elite has a wide assortment of backpacks for hikers, bikers, skiers, backpackers, and other outdoor / nature / adventure photographers. Their smart design allows the photographer to focus on getting the shot, rather than accessing his or her gear.
I especially loved their Pro Elite + ClikStand, which combines a comfortable pack with a convenient accessory stand that works like a second hand for lighting and camera set-ups. Hopefully we'll get a chance to review this product as it looks ideal for cinematographers on the move as well as nature photographers.
