Canon Powershot SX10 IS Review
|
Review Summary
Reader Score: 8.35 (out of 10)
Review (Summary): "The new PowerShot SX10 IS camera represents Canon's first foray into the world of the 20x super-zoom, offering a lens equivalent to a massive 28-560mm focal length. Everything from wide-angle landscapes and group portraits at the wide end to unobtrusive candid snaps and wildlife shots at the telephoto can be covered with ease by the SX10. ...
... the Canon SX10 IS then proves to be a solid and reliable option for both the uninitiated moving up to a bridge model for the first time, and those stepping down momentarily from a DSLR who are looking for a model as a back up, or perhaps to supplement their existing lens range, but in a more portable and user-friendly format. ..."

| Review (Summary): "The Canon PowerShot SX10 IS sports a long zoom lens ranging from 28 to 560mm, which amounts to a 20x zoom that starts at f/2.8. Other vitals on the Canon SX10 include a 10-megapixel sensor, a 2.5-inch articulating LCD, and video recording on demand. ...
... Though the lens focal length has nearly doubled to 20x, optical quality remains solid, with unusually sharp corners and minimal barrel distortion for its class. ..." |

| Review (Summary): "Externally the SX10 IS looks very similar to its predecessor. It is a large camera even by super-zoom standards, only a little smaller than a compact DSLR. In fact it's almost exactly the same size as the Panasonic Lumix G1 that I reviewed last week. ...
The overall image quality is very good. The lens has fantastic center sharpness, and the level of recorded detail is superb, among the best I’ve seen. Wide angle barrel distortion is kept to an acceptable minimum, and telephoto pincushion distortion is also thankfully mostly absent. ..." |

| Review (Summary): "The PowerShot SX10 IS ($399) is the follow-up to the Canon's enormously popular PowerShot S5 ultra zoom digital camera. The SX10 retains a the basic features of the S5 (big zoom lens, rotating LCD, manual controls, nice movie mode), and expands on them (quite a bit in the case of the lens). ...
... keep the light levels up and the ISO sensitivity down, and you'll get very nice results from the PowerShot SX10. Photos are well exposed (though there is occasional highlight clipping), with vivid, accurate color. ..." |
