Samsung TL34HD Digital Camera Review

Review Summary
Reader Score: 4.00 (out of 10)
Review (Summary): "Point-and-shoot digicams have some pretty outlandish features for reasonable prices these days. Look at the new Samsung TL34HD, for example. It has a 14.7-megapixel sensor, a 3-inch touchscreen LCD, optical image stabilization, a wide-angle Schneider 3.6x zoom and takes 720p high-def videos: Not bad for around 325 clams in the real world. ...

... The Samsung TL34HD is a mixed bag. It takes very nice shots in good light, but it loses detail in shadows and focusing isn’t super sharp. Video quality is solid too, but audio caliber is screechingly bad. ..."

Review (Summary): "The Samsung TL34 HD digital camera offers an incredible 14.7 megapixel resolution on an image sensor that is the same size (0.59") found in more advanced camera's such as the Canon Powershot G10. What makes this unusual is that most small point & shoot (P&S) camera's tend to uses small image sensors (0.43") even as resolution increases. The importance here is that the more pixels you pack in, the more noise the sensor will exhibit, especially in lower lighting. ...

... For those looking for a compact point & shoot camera and who like the idea of having 'extra' megapixels to either throw away (crop) or use to make larger prints, the Samsung TL34 HD should be given serious consideration. It's not a professional's camera, but it definitely has the ability to capture stunning photographs...."

Review (Summary): "The TL34HD from Samsung is their new touch-screen, 14.7-megapixel point-and-shoot camera. Housed in a sleek metal case, it wowed us with good to excellent results in almost every test we could throw at it, especially white balance and automatic noise. ...

... Its interface was excellent, the touch-screen functioned far better than most of the competition, and it scored very well in the majority of our tests, especially white balance. Retailing at $299 makes it quite a bargain for a touch-screen camera. ..."

Steves-Digicams has reviewed the new 14.7-megapixel Samsung TL34 HD, a camera we reviewed as well. The TL34 HD is a very compact point & shoot camera that offers an impressive array of features including 720p HD video recording.

Steves-Digicams liked the overall performance and image quality but felt that the high ISO noise, above average chromatic aberration, and difficult to use touch screen menu system made it sort of a mixed bag.

Review (Summary): "Samsung has packed a cornucopia of features into its 14.7 megapixel TL34HD pocket shooter, including the ability to capture High Definition video. Unfortunately, the image quality for the bytecam is variable. ...

Video captured at the camera's best settings was better than typical fare uploaded to the Web, but disappointing when displayed on a 24-inch HD monitor. What's more, editing the video is problematic. ..."
