Monday, 06/18/12 - Sigma has announced the availability of its new Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC Macro OS HSM lens starting in July 2012. Pricing is still pending. It differs from Sigma's current 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM lens with its even more compact size, its macro capability with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2.9 and the use of Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) material currently used only by Sigma.
Tuesday, 04/03/12 - Sigma has announced that its newly upgraded 50-150mm F2.8 APO EX DC OS HSM telephoto lens is now available for the street price of $1,099. The 50-150mm F2.8 APO EX DC OS HSM telephoto lens is the successor to the 50-150mm F2.8 APO EX DC II HSM. The updated lens now features Sigma’s own proprietary Optical Stabilizer (OS) technology, which offers the use of shutter speeds approximately four stops slower than would otherwise be possible. The lens design utilizes an inner-focusing and inner-zooming system that provides convenient handling and this, along with the OS feature, makes it favorable for high-performance, handheld, close-up photography.
Wednesday, 02/08/12 - Sigma Corporation of America today announced the new Merrill series of digital cameras with the introduction of the DP1 Merrill and DP2 Merrill. The Merrill series is named in honor of Richard "Dick" Merrill, the co-creator of the Foveon X3 Direct Image Sensor technology that powers Sigma's unique lineup of cameras. These upgraded, high resolution, fixed lens compact digital cameras now incorporate the same APS-C sized 46-megapixel X3 image sensor found in the company's flagship SD1 SLR, now also known as the Sigma SD1 Merrill.
The Sigma DP1 Merrill and DP2 Merrill each boast exclusively-designed, high-performance telecentric fixed lenses. The DP1 Merrill features a wide, 19mm F2.8 lens, which is the equivalent to a 28mm lens on a 35mm SLR camera. The DP2 Merrill, however, offers a 30mm F2.8 lens, which is the equivalent to a 45mm lens on a 35mm camera. Both cameras are compact and lightweight, and feature Sigma’s own “F” Low Dispersion (FLD) glass, which performs like fluorite glass and significantly improves lens performance, as well as Super Multi Layer Coating to reduce flare and ghosting. With the 46-megapixel, full-color Foveon X3 Direct Image Sensor, the new DP cameras capture all primary RGB colors at each pixel location with three layers, which results in incredibly detailed images with a three-dimensional feel.
Monday, 01/30/12 - Sigma Corporation of America today announced the passing of Sigma Corporation's founder and CEO Michihiro Yamaki. He died of liver cancer in Tokyo, Japan, on Jan. 18 at the age of 78.
Yamaki founded Sigma Corporation on Sept. 9, 1961 with the development of the first-ever rear attached lens converter. At that time, most photo enthusiasts believed that a lens converter could only be attached to the front of a camera lens and the 27-year-old optical engineer turned conventional optical theory on its head. Sigma Corporation celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2011 with Yamaki still at the company’s helm.

Monday, 10/17/11 - Sigma has announced that its updated 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 II DC OS HSM is now available in Canon and Nikon mounts for the MSRP of $720. The new lens has been updated to include the company's new "F" Low Dispersion (FLD) glass elements, which perform like fluorite glass and significantly improve lens performance. The FLD glass now complements the lens' other, Special Low Dispersion (SLD) glass elements and aspherical lenses, which already provide excellent correction of color aberration.
Tuesday, 06/28/11 - Sigma today announced that its newly upgraded 105mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro lens is now available. The updated 105mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro lens now features Sigma's own proprietary Optical Stabilizer (OS) technology, which allows for high-performance, handheld, close-up photography. The telephoto reach makes it a perfect lens for capturing images of insects and small creatures. Additionally, the wide maximum aperture combined with a short telephoto focal length make it very favorable for facial portraiture at lower magnification.
The 105mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro features a floating focusing system that moves two different lens groups in the optical path to different positions. This system compensates for astigmatic aberration and spherical aberration, and provides extremely high optical performance from infinity to 1:1 macro. The lens has an MSRP of $1,400, but street prices are typically much lower.
Wednesday, 06/01/11 - Sigma has announced that its updated 120-300mm F2.8 EX DG OS APO HSM is now available for purchase in the U.S. for the MSRP of $4,700. The versatile lens is designed for use with full frame digital SLR cameras but may also be used with smaller APS-C size sensors with a corresponding effective increase in focal length to approximately 180-450mm with most cameras. The Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) ensures quiet and high speed auto focus, while allowing full-time manual focus override.
Friday, 05/20/11 - Sigma Corporation of America is pleased to announce that its flagship DSLR, the Sigma SD1, will be available for purchase in June for the MSRP of $9,700.
